In a nutshell it is a sanity-preserver for home-schooling parents!
Certain subjects can be taught to all of your children all at the same time on a single topic per lesson, without holding the eldest child back, or compromising the understanding of the youngest child. At Love2Learn we call these subjects CORE STUDIES. (Please note: You can home-school your entire family on any subject from our Extended Core Studies, provided that ideally the age difference between your youngest and oldest child does not exceed a maximum of 4 years. For a Core Package, the maximum age difference cannot exceed 2 - 3 years.)
A precious friend of mine has just been blessed with her fourth child! I know she wonders how she will teach them all at the same time. We chat almost daily, and I am intimately aware of the difficulties facing a family trying to teach multiple ages simultaneously.
For example, let’s assume you have been blessed with four children. How will you cope if you have to teach four lots of history lessons (all on different topics!), four lots of geography lessons (yes… all on different topics!), four lots of biology lessons (again...all on different topics!), four lots of art lessons (oh no!....all on different topics!)... Need I say more? It is quite likely that you will want to give up home-schooling after a week. I know I would!

Love2Learn offers two options in regard to covering Core subjects:
Core Packages
Core Packages include a dedicated grouping of all the main Core subjects; however unlike with Core Studies, Core Packages are indivisible and may not be ordered peace-meal, by subject. A Core Package is just what the name says – a Package!
From feedback we’ve had from some of our clients that have struggled to get through all the material offered as part of our “Extended Core Subjects”; through the introduction of Core Packages we can now offer fewer books making it more manageable to complete a Core in a year.
Given that there are fewer books, it is also somewhat cheaper than purchasing the individual subjects as part of Core Studies, thus making home-schooling that much more affordable.
Although each Core Package will offer fewer books per subject than the “Extended Core Subjects”, in addition to ensuring that each Core Package comfortably covers the scope and sequence that the curriculum requires for any given year, we are still fully committed to maintaining the “core values” of Love2Learn, in that the books are full-colour and “living” in nature.
For a Core Package, the maximum age difference between your youngest and oldest child should not exceed 2 - 3 years.
Love2Learn offers a range of Cores Studies spanning the school years from kindergarten (Grade R) to the final year of high school (Grade 12 or a Post-Matric Grade 13). They are numbered Core 0 through to Core 10+. The Core Studies are selected based on the ages and grade levels of your children. A new Core is completed every year, gradually working through all the Cores until completion of Cambridge A-Levels.
Core Studies (Extended) include the following subjects:
- Bible (Bible Study, Christian Character, Scripture Memorisation, Theology etc.)
- History (World History, Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, 20th Century + Extra Module South African History)
- Logic (Critical Thinking, Traditional and Material Logic)
- English Literature (Great Books, Classics, Biographies, Historical Novels & Wholesome Books)
- Economics (With an Accounting Option in High School)
- Art (Practical, Art Appreciation and History of Art)
- Music (Theory, Music Appreciation and History of Music)
- Geography (Map-work, Physical Geography, Geology, Astronomy)
- Biology (Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Microbiology)
- Science (Physics and Chemistry)
- Technology
- Human Anatomy (Including Physiology and First Aid)
- Life Skills (Various)
Remember: If you order any of these Extended Core Studies subjects, all of your children will be learning these together, at the same time, providing that the age gap between your eldest and youngest child ideally does not exceed an absolute maximum of 4 years.
These Extended Core Studies Subjects may be ordered individually or in any combination that you require for your family. E.g. you may order Core 2 Bible with Core 1 History, Core 1 Geography and Core 3 Literature!
