In the high-school years, home-schooled children often develop into independent learners, who adopt a similar approach to their learning as university students. They learn to assimilate information, independently from you, directly from the books they read. They process the material critically, and re-synthesize it into their own meaningful and creative conceptual whole. This is one of the reasons why home-schooled children perform well at university; they have simply been operating as university students at home for some time before they reach their undergraduate studies!
